One of the key initiatives of the Lions Club in Northern California is their support for elementary school nurses throughout the northern part of the state. Lions volunteers work closely with these nurses to conduct comprehensive vision screenings for students in schools, helping to identify children who may be experiencing undiagnosed vision problems. Through these screenings, the Lions have discovered that, on average, approximately 4% of children tested require some form of vision-related assistance, such as glasses or specialized eye care. This statistic underscores the importance of early intervention and the crucial role that Lions Clubs of District 4-C1 play in facilitating these screenings.

In addition to offering basic screenings, Lions Club members provide valuable follow-up support. After identifying potential vision issues, they offer a preliminary screening report that can be shared with a certified eye doctor for further evaluation.
